Case Study: Small Pleural Effusion

A 45-year-old female presented with dyspnea and cough for 5 days.

A POCUS lung ultrasound was performed which revealed a small pleural effusion. The image below was acquired in zone R1.

 

What is the arrow pointing to? 

A. A-line
B. B-line
C. Z-line

 

 

The arrow is pointing to a B-line.

Explanation

You can see the bright echogenic line extend all the way to the full depth of the lung field. A Z-line would not extend all the way. See the references for more information.
