Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound for Abdominal Pain
June 18, 2026 | 12pm ET
This session will focus on using point-of-care ultrasound to evaluate children who present to the emergency department with abdominal pain. The presentation will review how to scan pediatric patients and recognize key sonographic findings associated with appendicitis, intussusception, pyloric stenosis, and mesenteric lymphadenitis, with practical tips and tricks to support better bedside decision-making worldwide.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the relevant anatomy of the pediatric appendix, bowel, pylorus, and mesenteric lymph nodes as seen on ultrasound, including normal versus abnormal sonographic appearances.
- Apply pediatric abdominal ultrasound scanning protocols to evaluate for appendicitis, intussusception, pyloric stenosis, and lymphadenitis in children with abdominal pain.
- Interpret pediatric abdominal ultrasound findings using illustrative cases to differentiate normal studies from common pathologic conditions.
