Transabdominal obstetric point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a foundational skill that enables rapid clinical assessment and supports timely decision making in pregnancy care. This course builds the essential knowledge and hands on technique needed to perform OB ultrasound confidently and accurately, from identifying pelvic anatomy and obtaining standard views to performing fetal biometry, assessing amniotic fluid, and recognizing ectopic pregnancy.

Course Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define the scope and clinical significance of obstetric POCUS
- Identify basic female pelvic anatomy and uterine structures
- Apply fundamental ultrasound principles and recognize standard scan planes
- Perform systematic transabdominal obstetric ultrasound using proper technique
- Obtain core obstetric measurements to estimate gestational age and evaluate fetal growth
- Assess fetal well being using cardiac activity, placental characteristics, and amniotic fluid parameters
- Recognize sonographic features of common pregnancy related complications, including ectopic pregnancy
- Apply standardized terminology when reporting findings
- Integrate ultrasound findings with clinical data to categorize cases and determine appropriate follow up or escalation
- Apply safe equipment use, including transducer cleaning and disinfection

FAQs
Do I need prior ultrasound experience to enroll in this program?
While prior ultrasound experience is beneficial, it is not required. The program is designed to accommodate learners with various levels of ultrasound experience.
The POCUS Fundamentals Certificate has to be successfully completed. A waiver is available for clinicians who have passed the Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) examination within the last 5 years or ARDMS®️ and APCA™️ Certificate holders.
How long does it take to complete the course?
The program is self-paced, but can be expected to take 90 minutes to complete. You will be given thirty (30) days from the date of purchase to complete the modules and summative assessment.
What if I don't pass the summative assessment?
You will have two opportunities to pass the summative assessment. If you do not pass with the first two attempts, you will need to reapply for the Obstetrics (OB) Essentials POCUS Course. The full course fee is required with each reapplication.
