Being on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, many healthcare workers bear the burden of a unique stress imposed on them by the very nature of their job: regular, if not daily, exposure to the virus. This webinar will offer insight on identifying signs of, managing and reducing stress. Dr. Ali will define burnout and provide insight on how to cope in this stressful pandemic environment.

Meet the Speaker:

Mana K. Ali, PhD, a member of American Psychological Association Division 22, Rehabilitation Psychology, is the attending psychologist on the spinal cord injury/disease unit at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital. Rehabilitation psychologists, often within teams, assess and treat cognitive, emotional, and functional difficulties of individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions. Dr. Ali also serves as the Director of Training for the Rehabilitation and Pain Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship, as well as the Co-chair of the Diversity, Inclusion, Committee for Equity at MedStar NRH.

The competing global crises, including the enduring COVID-19 pandemic, has understandably been overwhelming. Every aspect of life has been affected, from health and work, to education and relationships.  While it can feel counterintuitive in such an uncertain and demanding time, we need to make time for our own coping and self-care. Psychological research has consistently shown that self-care not only benefits people’s physical and mental health but enables them to carry out their jobs more effectively.

Dr. Ali’s presentation will highlight symptoms of burnout, elicit resilience, and provide strategies for self-care. In the interim, the American Psychological Association offers tips to help cope.
