Provider Profile: Dr. Ahmed Sami Abuzaid

Each month we're interviewing a different healthcare provider, getting personal details about how POCUS impacts their practice. To kick off our provider spotlight series we interviewed Dr. Ahmed Sami Abuzaid, a distinguished expert in cardiology. Their outstanding work and dedication to patient care makes them the perfect choice for our inaugural feature.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your work and how POCUS relates.

I am a clinical imaging cardiologist, with a multimodality imaging practice encountering diverse pathology and clinical cases of cardiomyopathies such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiac amyloidosis, and valve heart diseases. I find the use of POCUS very helpful when we see our sick patients in the emergency room where clinical information can be augmented with the use of handheld devices. Also, there is a large need within outreach clinics with no imaging access to help with the clinical decision process. We also find the use of POCUS very practical in emergency ICU/CCU settings.

Q: Why did you pursue POCUS certification and how did you find the process to be?

POCUS certification is a practical way to refresh your skills in busy clinical practice. The content was well crafted and provided a new and innovative way to show competency and up-to-date POCUS skills.

Q: Share a positive message or quote with the community.

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”

– Benjamin Franklin

I encourage every one to use POCUS and keep practicing – it will get better.
