OB/GYN POCUS Must-Knows (3/18/2020)

Samantha Callis, MHA, RDMS, RDCS, RVT will be discussing the must-know applications of OB/GYN point of care ultrasound, primarily in the acute care setting including the Emergency Department and other inpatient units. The webinar will cover a number of topics including high yield finds for time sensitive diagnoses in obstetrics and gynecology along with best ALARA practices in first trimester obstetric imaging.

Presentation Learning Objectives

  1. Describe normal sonographic findings for the non-gravid uterus to avoid imaging pitfalls
  2. Describe the “top 5” high yield finds for conditions requiring rapid diagnosis and treatment
  3. Describe incidental findings and findings that may warrant specialty referral to OB/GYN and other specialty areas (GI, urology, etc.)
  4. Describe normal sonographic findings for the gravid uterus in the first trimester
  5. Describe the “top 5” high yield finds for conditions requiring rapid diagnosis and treatment
  6. Understand the importance of sonographic physics and instrumentation as it relates to bioeffects and ALARA practices for the developing fetus

About Our Speaker

Samantha N. Callis (Sawyer), MHA, RDMS (OB)(AB), RDCS (AE)(FE)(PE), RVT

If she’s not scanning patients at The Women’s Hospital, leading a lecture on high-risk obstetrics, or guiding her students through an array of clinical courses, Samantha Sawyer is most likely fine tuning her yoga practice. Samantha is an Instructor in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and a Clinical Coordinator at the University of Southern Indiana. She has spent the last several years scanning everything from general sonography to cardiac sonography however, her specialty is maternal fetal medicine, helping to care for high-risk mothers and babies.
