Successful completion of the POCUS Fundamentals includes:

*While the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate is waived for clinicians who have passed the Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) examination within the last five (5) years or ARDMS® and APCA™ Certificate holders, this does not apply to earning CME credits.
The Point of Care Ultrasound Certification Academy developed the POCUS Fundamentals learning modules and certificate to ensure clinical proficiency for those practicing POCUS globally and aims to provide a foundational knowledge of the physics and instrumentation behind point of care ultrasound instruments and diagnostic ultrasound. The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of clinical point-of-care ultrasound users.
- Upon completion of the program and earning the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate, the participant should be able to:
- Explain the principles of ultrasound physics
- Define echogenicity and attenuation
- List and explain the ultrasound machine settings and modes
- Identify the different transducer types
- Explain ultrasound image orientation
- Describe ultrasound safety principles, ultrasound artifacts, and ultrasound bioeffects
The current prerequisite is limited to having prior healthcare training.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Global Education Group (Global) and Inteleos. This activity has been reviewed by the AAPA Review Panel and is compliant with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 4 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Dr. Rao is a radiologist by training and helped to introduce and develop POCUS curriculum at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. He is the former director of ultrasound education at University of South Carolina School of Medicine and now works at Inteleos as the Global Clinical Content Manager. Dr. Rao has also worked as a primary care physician in mission hospitals overseas where he enjoyed seeing patients in the clinic, managed inpatients, performed deliveries, C-sections, and minor surgeries.

Global Clinical Ultrasound Specialist at Inteleos
James is a cardiac sonographer living in the Philadelphia metro region. While at Thomas Jefferson University Medical College, James managed 40 simulation programs and taught all modules of POCUS. James currently serves as a Global Ultrasound Specialist working to support the POCUS community.

In order to receive credit, participants must complete the entire activity. Participants must receive a passing score on the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate and submit the activity evaluation.
|To access the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy content, a computer (Mac or PC) or tablet (Android or iPad) with a common browser will be required. Headphones or speakers are recommended, and a reliable internet connection is necessary.
There is $125 fee for this educational activity which includes the 4 CAT-1 ACCME credits or 4 CAT-1 AAPA credits.
Requests for cancellations or refunds may be submitted until a candidate starts an assessment. Neither full nor partial refunds will be issued for any Certificate or certification that has been started or for which the completion time has been exhausted. All refunds will be processed in the same form as the original payment within five (5) business days.
