How did POCUS Fundamentals Become the “Must Take” for CME’s?

Knowledge is an essential tool for human life that never stops evolving. Human curiosity drives us and keeps us motivated to learn.

The medical field is known to be one of rigorous education, training, and testing. Those in medicine spend four years in an undergrad program, four years in medical school, and anywhere from three to seven years in residency training before becoming eligible for medical licensing. However, even with the years dedicated to gaining the smarts and wisdom to practice well, medical professionals aren’t immune to this evolving tool, called knowledge.

You see, there isn’t a single industry or field that remains stagnant in today’s world of growth and development, including medicine. Due to the critical nature of the job, the emphasis on gaining new knowledge is no stranger to medical practitioners. Even after all those years of training, continuing medical education is vital to protecting and ensuring public health. It is an assurance that as medicine develops and transforms, so do the professionals that make up our industry.

In support of our profession’s need and requirement to not only become knowledgeable, but also to remain so, the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Certification Academy™ is excited to announce the POCUS Fundamentals with Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits. We are now offering 4 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ or 4 AAPA Category 1 CME Credits™ upon the successful completion of our POCUS Fundamentals Certificate assessment.

Use the credits earned to meet your CME requirements. This includes any institution or organization that accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ or 4 AAPA Category 1 CME Credits™ as an acceptable proof of approved educational activity.

The POCUS Certification Academy provides physicians, physician assistants, and advanced-practice practitioners the opportunity to collaborate in our shared mission—to improve global health and to set standards of excellence in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). We already support educational opportunities that allow healthcare providers to increase proficiency in POCUS— offering the ability to earn CME credits just made sense for us. It’s who we are and this is an extension of our mission.

CMEs are critical to the healthcare community, and it is how medical practitioners stay current on the latest research, technologies, and best practices for treating patients. Many hospital credentialing bodies, state and medical boards, as well as insurance providers, don’t just consider CMEs a nice achievement to have, deem them as requirements. So, we understand their importance and have heard your requests for these essential credits with our certificate programs.

We have answered your call and are thrilled to be able to offer them to you now in partnership with the Global Education Group, a division of Ultimate Medical Academy.

To guarantee sound diagnoses using POCUS, we must understand all the details behind the functions of this innovative tool. Our POCUS Fundamentals with CMEs Certificate program trains physicians, physician assistants, and advanced-practice practitioners on the core competencies of ultrasound physics, basic knobology, and terminology for anyone using portable ultrasound in their practice.

This training includes education on correct techniques, reading image artifacts, and understanding how specific body tissues and structures affect the imaging results. It is also necessary to understand the nature of the lesion inside the body, which may have a particular appearance on ultrasound.

This baseline knowledge is critical to providing optimal diagnoses using POCUS. Physicians and physician assistants engaged in this type of ultrasound practice need to have a full scope understanding of the technology. Trained expertise allows for users of handheld ultrasound to be able to troubleshoot when an event or situation calls for it.

It’s not enough to just purchase a point-of-care ultrasound device. We are commissioned to enable POCUS users to deliver safe and effective ultrasound diagnoses.

Our mission is enhanced with our POCUS Fundamentals with Continuing Medical Education credits offering. Not only will we do our part in helping to improve and create standards for POCUS globally, but we get to support our community in remaining abreast of advancements in the field. It is an honor to serve you in both capacities.

Join us in our calling to ensure that knowledge truly is power for our entire community.
