Better Care, Better Future
Better Care. Better Future.
Technology shapes our lives: it has impacted our past, it influences our present and it is defining our future. From autonomous cars to delivery drones, technology has already woven itself into every aspect of our lives, and its sway will continue to increase due to advancements in research.
At the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Certification Academy™, our mission revolves around understanding and staying abreast of enhancements in technology directly linked to the medical field.
“Over the last thirty or forty years, ultrasound has matured as an imaging technology. It has run in parallel with overall software, miniaturization and processing speed development,” said CEO of Inteleos™, Dale Cyr.
A visionary behind the movement, Cyr made predictions of how the future of ultrasound would manifest as he observed shifts that occurred within technology in other industries.
Cyr went on to state that, “Particularly when the iPhone came out ten years ago and started linking processing power, the internet and imaging processing all together, to me it was pretty clear that this was a path ultrasound would take on. Which would be a handheld, mobile-based equipment.”
As the technology behind ultrasound has changed, the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy has shaped its mission and goals around creating a setting where healthcare practitioners and patients alike can benefit from the new advancements.
“I’d imagine that we’ll create more waves whenever the patient population and the public are more aware that this exists and is something we can all benefit from,” said Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy Global Director of Certificate Assessments, Dr. Rubens Pessanha.
POCUS Purpose of Care
As a direct result of advancements in ultrasound technology, the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy has witnessed a growth in the global market and its impact on medical care. Anticipated to replace the stethoscope, this modality is paving the way to shape the future of medicine.
The Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy seeks to not only introduce this powerful new instrument to practitioners in healthcare but also desires to educate on it.
“We are a certification organization, and at the core, our purpose is to improve and enhance public safety and global health through the use of certification or assessments,” said Cyr.
As the medical field transforms, standards of care are also evolving. To ensure the highest quality of care, the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy effortlessly seeks to remain ahead of progress and provide a platform clinicians around the world benefit from. We desire to see them acquire the knowledge and skills to provide the best care possible.
“I think the POCUS movement is a movement of pushing medicine forward and improving global health and improving quality of healthcare,” said Dr. Pessanah.
A Global Community
A medical officer in Africa, a midwife in Belgium, a physician assistant in rural America, and many more healthcare professionals around the world will soon have access to handheld ultrasound devices. For many, this technology is foreign to them. They have little to no education or training on it and may not recognize the strength and potential it offers.
The Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy believes that as point-of-care ultrasound soars across borders, it is essential to standardize the knowledge and proficiency levels among global users. According to Cyr, the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy Certification Academy is working “to build a global community” where established standards and certification processes can inspire patient safety to “be enhanced with the use of this potent diagnostic tool.”
Through teaching and training, the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy hopes to achieve its mission of developing a future with substantial healthcare. “It really is a mission-based area,” said Cyr. “It is about coordinating and using our skill sets, coordinating with the world to develop global standards around POCUS.”
As the global community grows and advances with the evolution of technology, the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy Certification Academy will have a direct impact on the future of ultrasound. Universal standards will result in universally better care. That is what we are striving to achieve.
Simply put—the POCUS movement is a rally around the goal of demonstrating proficiency for better patient care.
“There are many agendas,” said Dr. Pessanah. “But the only agenda that should matter is the one of better care for a better future.”
